SMAC HOSTS “THANK YOU PARTY” TO HONOR SUPPORTERS

ORANJESTAD, Aruba — The Stichting Maneho di Aruba su Carnaval (SMAC) recently hosted a festive “Thank You Party” to express its heartfelt gratitude to the diverse group of individuals and organizations that have supported Aruba’s Carnaval over the past four years.

The event served as a celebration of the collective effort required to bring the island’s largest cultural manifestation to life, while also marking a significant milestone: the conclusion of Darren van Ommeren’s four-year tenure as President.

A Night of Gratitude

The gathering brought together volunteers, sponsors, security personnel, government officials, and media partners. The primary goal was to acknowledge those who worked behind the scenes—often for long hours—to ensure that every parade, contest, and musical event ran smoothly from 2022 through 2026.

Key Highlights of the Celebration:

  • Recognition of Stakeholders: SMAC representatives took the stage to thank the unsung heroes whose dedication kept the spirit of Carnaval alive, especially during the transitional years following global challenges.
  • Leadership Tribute: Much of the evening focused on the leadership of Darren van Ommeren. As President, van Ommeren was credited with navigating the organization through complex logistical shifts and modernizing several aspects of the Carnaval experience.
  • Cultural Unity: Attendees enjoyed an evening of local music and camaraderie, reinforcing the idea that Carnaval is not just a series of events, but a pillar of Aruban identity.
