MASSIVE BRASSBAND INTERNATIONAL

Massive Brassband International was founded in the fall of 2015 by musical director Roderich Lopez. The band is a fixture at Aruba’s Carnival parades and local festivals, aiming to promote the island’s unique Asambeho music tradition.
Lopez has deep roots in the tradition, starting with Aruba Angels Brass Band in 1983. After studying and working in the Netherlands, he returned in 2010 to realize his dream of starting his own band. The band quickly went international, performing in the Netherlands.
The Asambeho rhythm itself dates back to 1960 and was created in Aruba by three friends: Arnold, Alfonso, and Samuel Hodge, with the name derived from their names (Arnold, Alfonso, SAMuel, BEide, HOdge). Lopez’s driving force is to revive and share this “soul rhythm and happy music” with the world.
